How it works

  1. Add the clip you want to post in Discord.
  2. Keep Discord (free) at 20 MB, or switch to Discord Nitro Basic at 50 MB.
  3. Press Compress and wait for the progress bar to finish.
  4. Download the MP4 and drag it into your Discord chat.

Discord upload limits

Discord raised the free upload limit from 10 MB to 20 MB on 14 August 2026. Members with Discord Nitro Basic can upload files up to 50 MB.

Both presets here use those numbers. A megabyte is counted as 1,000,000 bytes, which is the smaller reading, so the file fits whether a limit is counted in MB or in MiB.

Getting a clear picture at 20 MB

A clip of about a minute or less looks good at 20 MB. For a longer clip, the tool lowers the resolution so each frame still gets enough bits, instead of stretching a thin bitrate over a sharp but blocky picture.

  • Trim the clip first if you only need a part of it.
  • Turn on Remove audio when the sound does not matter: the bits go to the picture.
  • Leave the resolution on Auto unless you need a particular size.

Questions

What is Discord's file size limit for videos?

Free accounts can upload files up to 20 MB, and Discord Nitro Basic raises that to 50 MB. The two presets on this page match those limits.

My clip is still too big for 20 MB. What can I do?

Remove the audio, pick a lower resolution such as 480p, or trim the clip. The tool also tells you when your size is below the smallest useful size for the clip and offers a better one.

Will the video play inside Discord?

Yes. The result is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, with the index at the front of the file, which is what chat previews need.

Does the compressor upload my clip to make it smaller?

No. It runs entirely in your browser, so the clip never leaves your device until you post the result yourself.

Can I use another size than the two Discord presets?

Yes. Choose Custom and type any size from 0.1 to 4000 MB, in decimals if you like.
