Compress a video to the size you need

Pick a size, add your video, and download an MP4 that fits.

or drop or paste it here

Target: Discord (free), 20 MB. You can change it after adding a video. Your video stays on your device.

How it works

  1. Add your video: choose a file, drop it on the page, or paste it.
  2. Pick a platform such as Discord or WhatsApp, or type a size in megabytes.
  3. Press Compress. The tool measures the finished file and tries again if it is too big.
  4. Preview the result and download the MP4.

How the size is kept under your limit

The tool does not guess and hope. It works out a video bitrate from the length of your clip and the size you picked, encodes once, and then measures the real file. If the result is too big, it encodes again at a lower budget, up to two more times.

The file you can download is never larger than the size you chose. If three tries cannot get under it, no download is offered. The message tells you the smallest size it reached and suggests a lower resolution or removing the audio.

What you get back

The result is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, a combination that plays in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and in chat apps. A portrait video stays portrait, and the frame rate is never raised.

Tags in the original file, such as where it was filmed or which phone made it, are not copied to the result.

Fast mode and slower mode

Most browsers can encode H.264 video themselves, often with the graphics chip. The tool then runs in fast mode and says so. If your browser cannot encode H.264, or cannot read your video's format, the tool switches to slower mode. It shows a time estimate first, and downloads its own encoder only then.

Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is read and encoded on your device. This site has no server that could receive it, and it makes no requests to other sites.

Which video formats can I add?

MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV work in every browser that can decode the video inside. Other containers such as FLV or AVI, and codecs your browser cannot decode, are handled by the slower mode.

Why is my result a little smaller than the size I picked?

The first try aims slightly under the target so it does not overshoot. If the measured file is well under, the tool tries a higher bitrate. Results usually land between about 80% and 100% of the target.

What if the size I pick is too small for my video?

Before encoding, the tool compares the size with the smallest useful size for your clip. It then offers to use that size or to try anyway. If the size cannot hold even the container and the lowest bitrate, it explains why and does not start.

Is there a limit on how big my video can be?

The site sets no limit. Your device does: very large videos need a lot of memory. When the tool expects trouble it warns you and lets you try anyway.
